Maybe this is just my personal take on the functionality of the 'apron,' but wouldn't one want a material that is not hot, heavy, and absorbent when one is preparing messy foodstuffs in the kitchen?

Well, the most useless apron ever would be expensive frilly lace, instead of cheap crochet-it-yourself yarn... but this is definitely a close second.
