Tina wanted her boyfriend to learn the important things in life, like locating her own personal "starboard" and "port." Sadly, he had dyscalculia and frequently got the two directions mixed up. This sweater would solve all their problems.

Looks like a weird totemic sort of face at the bottom of this sweater, between the two boats. Perhaps this is scaring the boyfrisnd away...
