As Alice sat there silently, she fancied that she could hear her plants talking to her.
"Alice. We're thirsty. We want water."
"Oh, yes, my little flora," she exclaimed in joy, for she was terribly excited to at last have the communication she so desperately wanted with her beloved petunias.
"Then," the plants continued, "We want you to put some of that harmless little arsenic in the well. You know we like that. It makes us grow."
