SSSSAAAAFFFFEEEETTTTYYYY



I have a very vivid memory, circa 1987, of hearing "Safety Dance" playing in a roller skating rink. The rink was a Morton building the middle of the woods, and it was called "The Country Skateaway." I never figured out how you could escape the country on skates.
That night Danielle pushed me to the ground and made fun of me for not being able to skate well. The air smelled of prefab pizza, Aqua-Net, and Lysol. I was there overnight on a Girl Scout outing with a bunch of girls who hated my guts. I had a small sleeping bag with Goofy's head on it. We slept in the rink on the cold concrete. Girl Scouts was hell.

I'm not sure which is more surreal - that memory, or the video that accompanied the song.
