Recipe: "Bachelor's Bake"


from the 1967 Pillsbury Bakeoff Recipe Cookbook

1 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. mashed potato flakes
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 butter
12-oz can of SPAM, thinly sliced
1/2 c. celery, thinly sliced
1 c. cream cheese spread with onion
15 oz. can barbeque sauce with beef
1 pkg chicken gravy mix

Oven 350º.
Combine flour, potato flakes and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle half of crumb mixture in bottom of 8" square baking dish. Top with meat slices, then celery, cheese spread and barbeque sauce. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake at 350º for 20-25 mins until golden brown. Serve immediately with gravy, prepared as directed on package.

VARIATION! green pepper may be added with celery.
