Charles was of the true artistic temperament.
He emulated the Cubists' shocking breakdown of form; the Impressionists' shocking meltdown of technique, and even embraced the Dadaists' disdain of traditional aesthetics. But the artist he loved most was Vincent Van Gogh. He did everything Van Gogh did - from painting sunflowers, to painting nightscapes, to writing volumes to his brother, to hacking off his ear in a lover's quarrel.
